‘More popular than some prophets’: Arif Alvi slammed for Imran Khan popularity comment

Former President Dr. Arif Alvi has faced a huge backlash following a controversial remark concerning PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail.

Speaking at an event in London, Dr. Alvi allegedly said that Imran Khan is the most popular leader since World War II, further claiming that Khan has received blessings greater than those granted to some prophets.

The statement drew strong condemnation, including from Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Allama Tahir Ashrafi, who described the remarks as deeply inappropriate.

He urged the former president to seek forgiveness from God and apologize to Muslims whose religious sentiments have been offended.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Alvi, along with other PTI leaders, had spent a month in the United States lobbying for Imran Khan’s release. During this visit, they were reportedly involved in what the government and military establishment have characterized as an “anti-state and anti-army campaign.”

Much of PTI’s lobbying efforts were concentrated in Washington. However, these initiatives have yet to yield the desired results, first from the Biden administration and now in anticipation of potential support from former President Donald Trump.
