Mir Raza case: DNA tests awaited to confirm identity amid shock claims

KARACHI: In a dramatic turn of events, the high-profile murder investigation of 25-year-old entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali has hit a startling milestone as forensic experts await crucial DNA test results to confirm the deceased’s identity.

Speculation surrounding the body’s identity has gained traction following skeptical commentary by former police officers, including former SSP Niaz Khosa, who publicly raised doubts about the initial death narrative and opined that Mir Raza might actually still be alive.
DNA Verification & Laboratory Samples

The University of Karachi forensic laboratory has officially received six critical biological samples extracted during the court-ordered exhumation:

– Samples: Four distinct tissue and bone samples were recovered directly from the exhumed remains.

– Parental References: Two reference samples were submitted by Mir Raza’s parents to perform a direct genetic cross-match.

– Timeline: Laboratory officials confirmed that the DNA profile findings are expected to be released imminently to establish conclusive scientific identification.

Former SSP Niaz Khosa’s Doubts Realized

The decision to conduct formal genetic verification follows early investigative skepticism expressed by veteran law enforcement figures, most notably former SSP Niaz Khosa.

Khosa had previously posited that the severe decomposition, physical disfigurement, and procedural lapses in the initial recovery raised the possibility that the victim was misidentified and that Mir Raza could potentially still be alive.

While the second post-mortem confirmed severe physical trauma, acid burns, broken ribs, and a rear-entry bullet wound—prompting police to upgrade FIR No. 795/2026 to include Section 302 (Murder)—the pending DNA match will definitively settle whether the recovered remains belong to the IBA graduate.
Escalating Probe and Seized Evidence

The identity testing coincides with an active murder investigation overseen by the newly formed Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under DIG Aamir Farooqi.

Investigators have sealed the Gulistan-e-Jauhar guest house, detained 21 individuals—including guest house staff and business associates—and isolated foreign sweat DNA found on the victim’s clothing.

The forthcoming DNA profile from Karachi University will serve as the foundational cornerstone for the JIT’s ongoing homicide proceedings.
