ISLAMABAD: Renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil will be awarded the Pride of Performance Award presented by the president.
The Pride of Performance award is bestowed to recognise people who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the field of literature, arts, sports, medicine and science”. The Pride of Performance is the highest national literary award of Pakistan conferred upon its citizens.
President Dr Arif Alvi announced civil awards on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day. Those who will be presented with the awards include actors, poets, singers and soldiers as well as foreign nationals for their services to the country.
Apart from Maulana Tariq Jamil, the President’s Award for Pride of Performance will be presented to actor Humayun Saeed, singer Ali Zafar and Sakina Samo.
Among the people who will be receiving Hilal-i-Imtiaz is renowned painter Sadeqain Naqvi, singer Abida Parveen and late poet Ahmed Faraz. Sitara-i-Imtiaz will be presented to noted actors Bushra Ansari and Talat Hussain.
Anchor Naeem Bukhari will also be receiving Sitara-i-Imtiaz, while Edhi Foundation head and social worker Faisal Edhi will be awarded with Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.
Earlier, President Dr Arif Alvi conferred Nishan-i-Pakistan, the country’s highest civil award, on veteran Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani in recognition of his decades-long struggle for Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
A Hurriyat leader received the award from the president on Geelani’s behalf at an investiture ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr, following hoisting of national flag to mark the Independence Day.
