LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced a revised fee structure for students enrolling in public-sector medical and dental colleges across the province, increasing the annual tuition fee for MBBS and BDS programmes from Rs15,000 to Rs50,000.
According to directives issued by the health department and relevant authorities, the revised fee structure represents an increase of more than 233% from the previous annual fee. The move will raise the financial burden on students entering public-sector medical and dental institutions this academic year.
Who Will Be Affected by the New Fee Structure?
The revised fees will apply to all students securing admission during the current academic year. However, students already enrolled in previous academic sessions will be exempt from the increase and will continue paying the existing annual fee of Rs15,000 under the previous policy.
Under the new structure, incoming students will have to pay an additional Rs35,000 annually compared with students admitted in earlier years.
The increase is expected to raise the cost of medical and dental education for newly admitted students and their families. The revised policy distinguishes between incoming students and those already pursuing their degrees, with the latter retaining their previous fee arrangement.
The new fee structure covers MBBS and BDS programmes at public-sector medical and dental colleges across Punjab. Students and parents have reportedly expressed mixed reactions to the decision.
