The global music community is celebrating the birthday of legendary Qawwali maestro and Pakistan’s musical ambassador, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who turns 51 today, December 9, 2025.
Born on December 9, 1974, into the illustrious family of Qawwals in Faisalabad, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has carried forward the rich legacy of his uncle, the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
His soulful voice and mastery of Sufi-inspired music continue to resonate with millions across the globe.
Known for breathing new life into Qawwalis, Ghazals, and film songs, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s influence spans continents, making him one of the most cherished and influential musicians worldwide.
His voice has become synonymous with blockbuster soundtracks, having lent vocals to dozens of memorable songs for Indian films.
His contributions to patriotic anthems and national songs are recognized as symbols of unity and love for Pakistan.
His monumental career includes numerous accolades, such as the Pride of Performance award from the Government of Pakistan. In 2019, he was further honored with an honorary PhD in music from Oxford University.
Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan remains highly active in the music scene. He is currently fulfilling duties as a judge on Pakistan Idol, mentoring the next generation of musical talent.
Furthermore, he recently performed in the ‘Legacy of the Khans’ concert series alongside his son, Shahzaman Ali Khan, showcasing the continuation of their powerful musical tradition.
