ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan of committing political suicide by dissolving the assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In an interview with a private TV channel on Monday, Ahsan Iqbal further claimed that PTI leadership was busy with politics of non-issues for which they will have to face embarrassment and insult.
Interestingly, it is none other than the 13-parties coalition government led by PMLN which apparently is running away from holding elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after dissolution of assemblies in January this year.
Despite the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) approaching the Supreme Court to enforce the constitutional obligation of holding elections in both provinces within 90 days after the dissolution of assemblies, the federal government has openly defied the order.
Continuing to criticize the PTI, Ahsan Iqbal alleged that Imran Khan’s wish for power has made him greedy and mentally unstable, adding that the PTI chairman was “promoting confrontation, abusive culture and training the youth for his vested interests.”
Replying to a question, Ahsan Iqbal claimed that the federal government would hold polls in 2023 after completing the constitutional tenure of the current assembly, ignoring the fact that on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, his government was engaged in holding elections with PTI over the single point agenda of holding elections simultaneously across the country.
