KARACHI: Citizens may have to face power load shedding as K-Electric warned after facing a shortage of gas supply from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC).
According to KE spokesperson, the utility company is currently facing an acute shortage of gas supply and is receiving only 35 mmcfd of gas. He requested the SSGC to immediately restore the gas supply as per the requirement.
KE spokesperson said: “While the utility continues to provide uninterrupted power supply to the city by generating electricity through alternate fuels under Economic Merit Order (EMO), this chronic gas shortage is hampering the company’s ability to produce cheaper electricity that may adversely impact the consumers.”
He further said that if the required amount of gas supply was not restored then temporary load management will be initiated in Karachi as gas pressure problems at various power plants are affecting power generation capacity.
The spokesperson further said that electricity is being produced from alternate resources as per Economic Merit Order. He expressed concern that the utility will be left with no other option but to produce power from expensive alternate fuels.
KE often faces gas pressure issues at its different power generation sites that obstruct the utility from reaching its optimum power production efficiency.
