The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that Karachi will continue to experience a cold wave until January 9, with today’s recorded temperature at 8°C.
According to the PMD, the temperature is expected to drop to 7°C on Tuesday. Current humidity levels stand at 27%, with northeast winds blowing at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour.
In a report by Geo News, the PMD highlighted that areas around Jinnah Terminal experienced an unusually low temperature of 12°C, while the temperature at night dropped to 6.2°C. Other areas of the city also recorded significant temperature variations: Shahrah-e-Faisal at 11.5°C, Maripur at 10°C, and Bin Qasim at 11°C.
Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz stated that the cold weather conditions in Karachi are more intense than last year, with temperatures in December and January being cooler than usual. He further mentioned that the cold wave could persist for another two to three days.
The ongoing cold wave has resulted in an increase in weather-related illnesses, such as cough, flu, and other respiratory issues, affecting many citizens in Pakistan’s largest city.
