KARACHI: Flour prices have risen once again across Pakistan, with the cost of a 20-kilogram bag reaching as high as Rs2,900 in Karachi, according to the latest price data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The official figures showed that Karachi recorded the highest flour prices in the country, where consumers were paying up to Rs2,900 for a 20kg bag.
The price of the same bag has climbed to Rs2,800 in Islamabad, Quetta and Khuzdar, while it is being sold for Rs2,750 in Peshawar, Rs2,747 in Rawalpindi and Rs2,740 in Hyderabad.
According to the PBS data, a 20kg bag of flour costs Rs2,700 in Bannu, Rs2,560 in Sukkur, Rs2,500 in Larkana, Rs2,420 in Multan, and up to Rs2,400 in both Gujranwala and Bahawalpur.
In other major cities, the commodity is available for Rs2,333 in Sialkot, Rs2,300 in Faisalabad, Rs2,250 in Lahore and Rs2,240 in Sargodha.
The latest figures highlight wide variations in flour prices across the country, reflecting differences in local supply chains, transportation costs and market conditions.
The continued increase in flour prices is expected to further strain household budgets, particularly for middle- and low-income families already grappling with the rising cost of essential food items.
Citizens expressed concern over the latest price hike, urging the government to take effective measures to curb inflation and ensure the availability of flour and other essential commodities at affordable prices.
