In a strongly worded statement today, Federal Minister for Infrastructure Development Abdul Aleem Khan expressed profound disappointment over the deteriorating state of Karachi’s infrastructure, particularly the Lyari Expressway.
Khan, who visited the site recently, criticized the ongoing work as “unsatisfactory” and took decisive action by suspending the Member South with immediate effect.

He vowed to overhaul the expressway into a “model infrastructure,” underscoring his commitment to the city’s residents.
The 26-km elevated Lyari Expressway, a critical artery for Karachi’s traffic since its 2016 completion, has faced persistent issues with maintenance and expansion.
Khan’s suspension signals a zero-tolerance policy for subpar execution, aiming to restore it as a benchmark for urban mobility.
In a positive turn, Khan announced the launch of construction on the M-6 Motorway (Sukkur to Hyderabad) and M-10 Motorway (Hyderabad to Karachi Port) starting this fiscal year.
These federal gifts to Sindh will enhance national connectivity, boosting trade, logistics, and direct links from Karachi Port to the rest of Pakistan.
The minister reaffirmed the federal government’s dedication to transparent, high-quality projects province-wide, with a focus on a “clean city” and world-class infrastructure for Karachi, Pakistan’s bustling economic powerhouse.
This development comes amid growing public frustration with urban decay in Karachi, where pothole-ridden roads, flooding, and traffic gridlock have plagued daily life.
Khan’s intervention could mark a turning point, especially as it aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s push for infrastructure revival post-2024 elections.
