Torrential rains in Karachi have caused major urban flooding, with Shahrah-e-Bhutto at Jam Goth in Malir completely washed away by floodwaters. The road suffered a massive breach as water flow intensified in the Malir River.
According to residents, the construction of Shahrah-e-Bhutto within the Malir River has restricted the natural flow of water, exacerbating the flood situation. The raging waters not only broke through the road but also diverted their course, flooding surrounding residential areas.
Since early yesterday morning, heavy rainfall has overwhelmed the city. Thado Dam has reached capacity, and the overflow from its spillway, along with flash flooding in the Lath and Malir rivers, has led to dangerous water levels in both the Malir and Lyari rivers.

In the FB Area, Shafiq Colony, Hassan Nauman Colony, Sohrab Goth, and the Bakra Peeri area near Lyari, floodwaters have entered homes. Water levels in some places rose several feet, trapping residents inside their homes. Rescue operations using boats are ongoing. Two people stranded near Lyari Nadi in Gulshan-e-Iqbal were successfully rescued.

Floodwater from Thado Dam has now entered residential zones in Scheme 33, significantly raising the water level. The M-9 Motorway near Jamali Bridge is also submerged, causing further disruption to traffic and connectivity.
Meanwhile, the strong current at the Korangi Causeway has led authorities to shut down the road from Godam Chowrangi to Mehmoodabad, cutting off a key route in the city.

Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors as emergency services continue rescue and relief operations.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded in Surjani Town at 129.6 mm, in addition to this, 72.2 mm was recorded in North Karachi, 70.5 mm in Korangi. 70 mm of rainfall was recorded in Defense Phase 7, 69 mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, 55 mm at PAF Faisal Base, 54 mm in Nazimabad, 52 mm in Keamari, and 51.2 mm in Saadi Town.
In addition, 47.9 mm of rainfall was recorded in Gulshan-e-Maymar, 47.2 mm in Orangi Town, 46.7 mm at the airport, 45 mm on M-9, 44.4 mm on University Road, and 41 mm at PAF Masroor Base.
