Karachi Police chief questions police surgeon’s handling of Mir Raza Ali’s medical report

According to the preliminary report, Mir Raza’s body was between 24 and 36 hours old at the time of examination. The report noted that the size of the bullet entry wound was larger, while the exit wound was smaller.

A dispute has emerged between the Karachi police and the police surgeon over the initial medical report of businessman Mir Raza Ali, with both sides questioning the handling of key forensic findings.

The disagreement has raised fresh concerns about the integrity of the investigation, as authorities continue probing the circumstances surrounding Raza Ali’s death.

As per Geo News, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Azad Khan said the medical report was prepared by a doctor working under the police surgeon. He explained that the medico-legal officer (MLO) conducted the examination of the body and submitted the report to the police surgeon, who kept it for two days before forwarding it.

“If there were any issues with the report, they should have been corrected immediately,” he said, adding that the police surgeon neither personally examined the body nor conducted the medical examination.

“Police investigations are based on the medico-legal report prepared by the examining doctor, and all investigations so far have relied on the initial medical report provided to the police,” he added.

Azad Khan said it was also essential to determine whether gunpowder residue was present on the deceased’s hands.

He said that the Crime Scene Unit collected evidence from the scene and handed it over to the medical team.

“If the police surgeon had any reservations, they should have informed the police,” he said, adding that in many countries medical teams also visit crime scenes. “Why did the medical team not inspect the scene in such a high-profile case?” he questioned.

The Karachi police chief said that if Mir Raza’s family requests it, another medical examination will be conducted.

He added that investigators are also looking into the disappearance of a firearm from the crime scene and are searching for the garbage collector seen in a viral video. “Recovering the weapon could help solve the case,” he said.

Meanwhile, serious discrepancies have reportedly been identified in the initial post-mortem report of Mir Raza Ali.

According to sources familiar with the medico-legal examination, the report indicated that the body was between 24 and 36 hours old. It also stated that the bullet’s entry wound was larger than the exit wound.

However, medico-legal sources said photographs from the examination suggest the opposite. They claimed the images indicate the bullet entered from the back and exited through the front, with a smaller wound visible on the lower back and a larger wound on the chest.

The photographs reportedly also show the body in a swollen condition with severe facial decomposition. Sources said the cause of the facial damage could have been determined through a detailed examination of the head.

They further claimed that the fingers of the victim’s left hand appeared tightly clenched around broken grass, while suspicious marks were also visible on the right hand. Another injury was reportedly visible beneath the chin in the photographs.
