KARACHI: Members of Marriage Hall Association today (Saturday) have staged a protest against the ‘illegal demolition’ of the halls in Karachi’s Korangi and Landhi area.
The decision of Deputy Commissioner Korangi to demolish wedding halls in the commercial area has sparked outrage among wedding hall owners and employees.
According to details, the marriage hall owners and employees staged a protest in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner, Korangi District. The protesters were holding placards and banners with slogans against DC Korangi.
Talking to media, the protestors informed that DC Korangi has threatened that the weeding halls, located in commercial areas, will be demolished. “We have already been suffering due to the impact of the coronavirus lockdown,” they added.
Speaking on the occasion, Hazar Khan Abro, president of labour committee said that about 100 people associated with each hall to earn a livelihood for their families. In case of demolition of the halls thousands of people would lose jobs.
“We have been protesting here for hours in the scorching sun, but DC Korangi has not yet responded to any of our questions,” he added. General Secretary of the Marriage Hall Association Rana Raees said that Chief Minister Sindh, Minister for Local Government, and Commissioner Karachi should take immediate notice of such incidents and resolve the issue.
