Karachi experienced intense heat on Wednesday as the feels-like temperature soared to a blistering 54 degrees Celsius, despite the actual maximum temperature reaching 37.4°C, according to data released by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The data showed that the apparent temperature, influenced by high humidity levels, climbed steadily from 49°C around 1pm to peak at 54°C by 3pm.
Relative humidity remained elevated at 79 per cent in the morning and 65pc in the evening, amplifying discomfort across the city. The minimum temperature recorded during the day was 30°C.
The sweltering conditions were not limited to Karachi. Several districts across Sindh recorded even higher temperatures, with Jacobabad emerging as the hottest area at 49.5°C.
Dadu followed at 49°C, while Paddidan and Sukkur recorded 47°C. Mohenjo Daro, Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad registered 46.5°C, while Rohri, Khairpur and Sakrand recorded 46°C, 45.5°C and 45°C, respectively.
The PMD had issued a heatwave alert last week for several regions, warning that the ongoing spell is expected to persist until June 12.
Authorities have advised children, women and elderly citizens to take extra precautions, avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight between 10am and 4pm, and remain adequately hydrated.
