Johnson wants Huawei 5G but without hurting national security

LONDON: Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump and expressed concerns about telecoms technology as he prepares to announce that Britain will use China’s Huawei in its 5G networks, officials said.
The two leaders “discussed many issues in a phone call on Sunday evening, including collaboration to ensure the security of telecommunications networks,” a spokesman for Downing Street said. A statement from the White House also indicated that they were considering “working together to maintain telecommunications networks ‘ stability.”

The U.S. has barred Huawei from the deployment of its next-generation 5 G mobile networks because of fears strongly refuted that the company might be under Beijing’s influence. Washington urged London to do the same, but there is hope that they would offer some kind of limited access to the company.
Huawei company is already well known in Uk 3G and 4G networks, and authorities have warned that blocking it would be hugely expensive and would hinder 5 G technology implementation.
