ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has accepted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) invitation to attend an All-Parties Conference (APC) and announced its opposition to the imposition of governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A delegation comprising PTI and other opposition leaders met JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman in Islamabad. The delegation included PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Opposition Leader in the Senate Allama Nasir Abbas, senior politician Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and other leaders.
Speaking after the meeting, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said JI had accepted the invitation to participate in the APC.
He said political parties needed to formulate a joint course of action on issues including law and order, the economic situation, the people’s right to governance and the democratic process.
He made it clear that JI would not support the imposition of governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said the party would oppose any measure that undermines the Constitution.
Allama Nasir Abbas said the purpose of the APC was to bring political parties together on a single platform to deliberate on the country’s issues and explore possible solutions.
He also stressed the need for dialogue among all stakeholders to reduce political and social divisions.
