AJK, Jammu Awami Action Committee (JAAC)

MUZAFARABAD: The Interior Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has issued a formal notification declaring the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee a proscribed organization.

According to the notification, groups operating under the names “Jammu Kashmir Action Committee” and “Joint Awami Action Committee” have been included in the First Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2014, effectively banning their activities in the region.

The decision was taken under the provisions of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Terrorism Act 2014, following approval from the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, who authorized the proscription of the organization.

Threat to Peace and Public Order

The government stated that credible evidence exists linking the organization to activities that threaten peace and public safety. Authorities allege that the group has been involved in actions intended to intimidate the public and create a sense of insecurity within society.

Officials further claimed that the organization has played a role in spreading unrest and disturbing public order in the region.

Allegations of Hate Speech and Destabilization

The notification also accuses the organization of promoting hate speech and contributing to an environment that undermines state stability and communal harmony. According to the government’s statement, these activities have negatively impacted law and order and posed a risk to regional peace.

The proscription means that any activity, association, or support related to the group is now legally restricted under the Anti-Terrorism framework in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
