ISLAMABAD: The government has issued a warning, saying that online matrimonial applications and websites are being used by hostile intelligence agencies (HIAs) to locate, gather information to trap members of the government and armed services.
The recent warning from Pakistan’s National Telecommunication and Information Security Board (NTISB) sheds light on the escalating worries surrounding the utilization of online matrimonial platforms. The main concern revolves around the possibility of Hostile Intelligence Agencies (HIAs) exploiting these platforms to obtain user data, posing a threat to national security.
Online matrimonial platforms present an attractive target for HIAs due to their large user bases and the sensitive nature of the information shared by individuals seeking partners. By infiltrating these platforms, HIAs can gather intelligence on government and military personnel, exploiting vulnerabilities for surveillance, data extraction, and potential entrapment.
The advisory specifically mentions Rishta—Pakistani Matrimony, accessible through the Google Play Store and the website http://shaadi.org.pk, as a platform of heightened concern. This emphasis underscores the government’s acknowledgment of the risks posed by online matrimonial platforms and its dedication to addressing potential threats to national security.
This cautionary stance reflects the Pakistani government’s proactive measures to safeguard sensitive information and protect citizens from potential dangers. It also underscores the evolving landscape of cybersecurity, wherein traditional espionage methods are supplemented by digital tactics.
