Iran War: Could Nuclear Threats Become Reality?

Ambassador Dr. Jamil by Ambassador Dr. Jamil

After the recent bellicose declarations by US President Donald Trump, tensions in the Middle East have entered a perilous juncture, where the prospect of playing a horrifying game with human lives in Iran and other countries of the region has emerged.

Today, before threatening the end of Iranian civilization, Trump had made it clear that if the deal is not accepted and the Strait of Hormuz is not immediately reopened, Iran’s key power plants and bridges would be targeted by the US military, potentially causing serious effects on regional energy flow and global trade. Iranian media has dismissed these threats as unreal and portrayed them as an attempt to conceal American failure, whereas the Revolutionary Guards have also made it clear that if their installations are attacked, no US-affiliated facility in the Gulf states will remain safe. The latest threat of Donald Trump, bringing end of Iranian civilization has stirred shiver among the people of the region and beyond, as the consequences of such threats is more than a devastation to the humanity.

This situation indicates the reality that war should not reach such a dangerous juncture where the risk of huge loss of human lives across the region is borne. Donald Trump’s statements and demands for agreement on a 15-point plan have intensified pressure on Iran. If Iran does not fully implement these demands, then with the expiration of the US president’s deadline, there is a strong likelihood that the dangerous turmoil will erupt in the region. This has created formidable challenges not only for Iran but also for the American government, because the matter has now become part of America’s global credibility, Israeli influence, and domestic politics.

Pakistan’s mediation is at a pivotal stage at this time, as confirmed by the Iranian ambassador in Pakistan; however, it is not in the interest of the Iranian people to sign any capitulation accord under American pressure. Despite this, a possible solution to the dispute could be that the ceasefire agreement gives face-saving to the United States and does not harm Iran’s dignity and honor, which could create room for some progress.

On the other hand, operations by American and Israeli forces in Iran have intensified. As a result of attacks in Tehran and other cities, civilian areas, universities, and energy facilities have been targeted, exacerbating pressure on Iran’s internal defense and economic infrastructure. In his recent speech, the US president claimed that two American soldiers were safely extracted from Iran, which he described as a military success at the global level. These statements, in reality, amount to creating a contrived narrative about Iran’s military capability.

Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries are also being affected by this tension. The King Fahd Causeway bridge connecting Bahrain to Saudi Arabia had to be closed for several hours, affecting traffic and economic activity. The Revolutionary Guards targeted American companies in Jubail and Juaymah with missile and drone attacks, as a result of which Sadara, ExxonMobil, and other major complexes were affected. These attacks were described by the Guards as a response to strikes carried out on their facilities in Iran.

The global dimension of tensions in the region is also prominent. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari has said that Qatar supports mediation efforts under Pakistan’s leadership, however it is not directly mediating between the United States and Iran. He warned that the situation in the region could go out of control and if the war continues there will be no winner, while attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure are unacceptable.

In the international military and diplomatic landscape, it is also clear that the United States and Israel are continuously carrying out operations to undermine Iran’s resilience. Israel attacked three airports in Tehran and Iran’s major petrochemical complexes, while Iran also targeted various objectives in the region through missiles and drones. The United Nations nuclear watchdog warned that attacks near Iran’s nuclear power plants are a risk to nuclear safety and must be stopped immediately, which is why recently Russia ordered the evacuation of dozens of Russian workers from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plants while the Russian state news agency reported 198 employees.

This tension in the region is creating a multifaceted and unpredictable situation at economic, political, and humanitarian levels. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, attacks on energy infrastructure, and US and Israeli military actions show that the issue is not only regional but also linked to the global economy and security. At this time when only few hours before the ultimatum of Donald Trump, mediation and diplomatic efforts under Pakistan’s leadership have gained importance, and there is concern that any mistake or haste by either Iran or the United States could cause irreparable harm to the region. It is necessary that peace and mediation efforts be given top priority by the parties. Despite military and economic pressure between Iran and the United States, mediation efforts under Pakistan’s leadership can provide a positive path, provided these steps also consider Iran’s sovereignty and honor, as well as America’s face-saving, because an immediate ceasefire, diplomatic negotiations, and secure energy transit through the Strait of Hormuz are essential for the security of the region.

And more importantly, convincing Donald Trump to realign his thinking regarding the use of any weapon that could turn his ultimatum into the practical implementation of ending Iranian civilization. The author, who had already discussed in his article published on March 9, 2026, on the same platform the possibility of using a tactical nuclear weapon, hopes that humanity will prevail over the destructive mindset of eradicating an entire civilization.
