Pakistan’s year-on-year inflation rate stood at 5.8 per cent in January 2026, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation was recorded at 5.6 per cent in December 2025, while it stood at 2.4 per cent in January 2025.
On a month-on-month basis, CPI increased by 0.4 per cent in January 2026, compared to a 0.4 per cent decline in the previous month and a 0.2 per cent increase in January 2025.
As a result, average inflation during the first seven months of fiscal year 2026 came in at 5.24 per cent, compared to 6.50 per cent during the same period of fiscal year 2025.
In urban areas, CPI inflation remained unchanged at 5.8 per cent year-on-year in January 2026, the same as the previous month, compared to 2.7 per cent in January 2025.
On a monthly basis, urban CPI rose by 0.2 per cent, compared to a 0.4 per cent decline in the previous month and a 0.2 per cent increase in January 2025.
In rural areas, CPI inflation increased to 5.8 per cent year-on-year in January 2026, up from 5.4 per cent in the previous month and 1.9 per cent in January 2025.
Month-on-month, rural CPI rose by 0.6 per cent, compared to a 0.6 per cent decline in the previous month and a 0.2 per cent increase in January 2025.
