Sky gazers received a special treat on Wednesday as May’s full moon – a ‘super flower blood moon’ – coincided with a lunar eclipse.
Since it is a supermoon, which is essentially a Full Moon at its closest point to Earth, we witnessed a larger Full Moon than usual. However, since it is also a total lunar eclipse on the same day, we saw the moon in its glowing red tone – Super Blood Moon.
May’s full moon is additionally known as the “Flower Moon,” named for the abundance of flowers associated with spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
Astrophotographers and other enthusiasts around the globe captured breathtaking images of the event, which was clearly visible in parts of Asia and Australia, as well as much of the US and South America.
