Imran Khan’s hospital transfer case: SC returns Dr Uzma’s petition

ISLAMABAD: Escalating the legal showdown over the Imran Khan Hospital Transfer Contempt case, the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office returned the contempt petition filed by Dr. Uzma Khan on procedural grounds after raising formal objections on Tuesday.

The legal challenge, filed through senior counsel Uzair Karamat Bhandari and Salman Akram Raja, sought action against top government officials for non-compliance with judicial orders.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar were named as primary respondents alongside prison administrators.

SC Registrar Objections Uzma Petition

Speaking to journalists at the Supreme Court Facilitation Center, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan confirmed the administrative setback.

He noted that the Registrar’s Office returned the file because the petitioners had not attached a specific, categorized list of charges against the designated respondents.

“The Registrar met us at the Facilitation Center and explained the administrative requirements,” Barrister Gohar stated. He added that the legal team is actively rectifying the paperwork so they can refile the petition immediately.

It may be recalled here that the contempt plea stems from executive actions on August 21, when state authorities diverted the incarcerated party founder to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

This brief check-up directly bypassed the apex court’s August 18 directive to admit him to Shifa International Hospital. Furthermore, authorities excluded his personal physician, Dr. Faisal Sultan, from the medical board.

Legal Battle Intensifies Over Khan’s Hospital Transfer Issue

Despite administrative delays, PTI leaders maintain that executive officials deliberately defied binding judicial mandates. The original August 18 interim order required comprehensive diagnostic tests and continuous medical care at the private facility under a sub-jail framework.

Since the government opted for an overnight evaluation at PIMS instead, the party moved the court to issue show-cause notices and compel personal appearances of responsible ministers.

PTI Pursues Direct Enforcement Action

Party leadership reaffirmed that no political compromise has taken place regarding the founder’s detention or health. As the legal team resolves the SC Registrar Objections Uzma Petition, the party insists that the top court must enforce its rulings.
