KARACHI: Customs Intelligence conducted an operation across Sindh today (Friday) and recovered a large quantity of smuggled Chalia and Indian Gutka.
According to details, the suspects hid the smuggled goods in two warehouses in Goth Kundu and Umerkot. A Customs official informed that the action was taken on a tip off.
A special team led by Additional Director Jamshed Talpur and Deputy Director Intelligence and Investigation Hyderabad Syed Mohammad Raza Naqvi raided the warehouse.
The illegal goods recovered during the raids in Goth Kundu and Umerkot included 56 metric tonnes of blister causing chalia and more than 48,000 packets of Indian Gutka. The total value of smuggled goods is more than Rs 150 million.
The customs official informed that a case has been registered against the unidentified smugglers and further investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) seized a huge haul of drugs worth more than Rs1 billion from a fishing boat during a raid on an island off Karachi’s coast.
According to the ANF spokesperson, the ANF intelligence wing conducted the raid last night. On seeing the ANF personnel, they added, suspected drug smugglers opened fire and managed to flee the scene, leaving the narcotics in the boat.
Almost 426 kilogrammes of heroin and 57 kilogrammes of hashish were seized from the boat. The value of the seized drugs is estimated to be more than one billion rupees.
