LAHORE: Former president Pervez Musharraf has challenged the formation of a special court in Lahore High Court (LHC) in the high treason.
The counsel of Pervez Musharraf, Khawaja Tariq Rahim on behalf of him, filed a petition in the high court today. The federal government and others have been made defendants in the petition.
According to the petition, the formation of a special court for the trial was unconstitutional. No permission was taken from the federal cabinet for initiating a trial against Pervez Musharraf.
The petition stated that the appointment of the prosecutor of the special court and other processes was also unlawful.
The petitioner also requested the court to summon a complete record of the proceedings of the special court and to declare the constitution and proceedings of the special court as unlawful.
General Musharraf was booked in a treason case in December 2013. He was indicted on 31st March 2014 in the case of suspending the Constitution by proclamation of emergency on 3rd November 2007. He left for Dubai in 2016 to seek medical treatment and hasn’t returned since.
