Dubai: Whether you’re a recent graduate, an experienced professional, or a student seeking your first job, understanding the process of obtaining a work permit in the UAE is essential.
In the UAE, work permits for the private sector are issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
According to a report by Gulf News, these permits provide various work options, from freelance work to temporary positions. It’s worth noting that most work permits need to be applied for by the employing establishment, except for the freelance permit, which individuals can apply for independently.
Here’s a breakdown of the different types of work permits available in the UAE:
Work Permit (Recruiting a Worker from Outside the State):
This permit allows registered establishments to hire workers from outside the UAE. The employing company is responsible for completing all necessary procedures, including applying for the worker’s residence visa and other documents.
Transfer Work Permit:
This permit allows expatriate workers to move between registered establishments in the UAE.
Work Permit under the Residence of Relative Permit:
This permit applies to individuals whose residence visas are sponsored by family members.
Temporary Work Permit:
This permit allows workers to be employed for a specific project or period not exceeding six months.
One-Mission Permit:
Issued to establishments recruiting workers from abroad for temporary projects.
Part-Time Work Permit:
Allows employees to work for multiple employers without approval from their original employer, provided the weekly working hours are no less than 20 hours.
Juvenile Work Permit:
Allows individuals aged 15 to 18 to be employed at registered establishments, with certain conditions and limitations.
Student Training and Employment Permit:
Allows UAE residents aged 15 and above to undergo training at registered establishments for a period of three months.
UAE and GCC National Permit:
Allows registered establishments to employ UAE or GCC citizens.
Golden Visa Work Permit:
Required for Golden Visa holders employed by UAE-based companies.
National Trainee Permit:
Obtained by companies to train Emiratis according to their academic qualifications.
Freelance Permit:
Allows individuals to work independently without sponsorship from an employer.
Private Teacher Work Permit:
Allows qualified professionals to offer private tuition lessons.
