LAHORE: Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain, who was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after his bowling action was declared illegal, said that he feels “sad” over the ban but aims to make a strong comeback.

“I am leaving the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and my team Quetta Gladiators, which is a difficult thing for me,” he said in a video message. “I will come back after improving my weaknesses. You’ll hopefully see a changed and a better version of Hasnain.”

Hasnain’s bowling action was found to be illegal by Cricket Australia during the Big Bash League (BBL) while playing for Sydney Thunders. His bowling was reported by umpire Gerard Abood after his BBL debut with the Sydney Thunders on January 2.

“I didn’t expect this. When I received a call for the first time over, I had no idea how to react as I was watching my videos to analyze whether this thing is happening or not,” he said.

Hasnain returned mid-way from Australia to participate in the PSL but a test showed he exceeded the elbow limit of 15 degrees allowed in bowling. He was subsequently stopped from playing the match against Islamabad United and pulled out of the mega-tournament.

“I returned to Pakistan and gave my bowling action test, in the middle of PSL, I was banned from bowling. This time is quite difficult for me,” he added. “I was tying my laces and someone told Sarfaraz Ahmed that Hasnain can’t play. I felt sad as I could have played one more match and made my team win,” he concluded.

Following the announcement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed a bowling consultant who will help Hasnain amend his bowling action at the National High-Performance Centre Lahore
