Hamas has confirmed receiving a detailed proposal for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, which is an initiative reportedly agreed upon by Israel and forwarded through international mediators.
According to a senior Hamas official, the group’s leadership is currently evaluating the terms with “seriousness and openness.”
Speaking to the media, Hamas spokesperson Taher al-Nunu stated, “We are carefully reviewing the proposal. If it leads to a full end to the war, we are ready to move forward.” He also revealed that Hamas leaders are expected to meet Egyptian and Qatari mediators in Cairo to resolve pending disagreements and restart negotiations.
Al-Nunu expressed deep concern over Israel’s past violations of ceasefire agreements, which he claimed have eroded mutual trust. He emphasized that Hamas would only accept a new deal if international powers act as credible guarantors.
This development follows a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced that Israel had agreed to the terms of a new 60-day ceasefire. “Now the ball is in Hamas’s court,” said Trump. “This may be the last best chance for peace—otherwise, we’re heading toward catastrophe.” He praised Egypt and Qatar for their diplomatic efforts in brokering this proposal.
An Israeli official indicated that the ceasefire deal includes a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, a significant increase in humanitarian aid, and discussions led by the U.S. to end the conflict altogether. However, the exact number of hostages to be released remains unspecified, though earlier frameworks involved the potential release of up to 10 individuals.
