KARACHI: The opposition leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh has said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) government is committed to improving the working and living conditions of the workers through a better work environment, provision of housing and education facilities, and extending health coverage to them and their families.
In his message on International Labour Day, Haleem Adil Shaikh saluted the workers of the entire world who play an imperative role in the development and growth of any country.
The PTI leader said May 1 reminded them of the sacrifices, bravery and commitment of the workers, who laid down their lives for upholding their fundamental rights and for a fair working environment.
The occasion symbolises the dignity of labour and at the same time, it also gives us an opportunity to admit the invaluable contributions of our workers, both inland and abroad, towards nation-building, Haleem Adil added.
PM Imran is the only political leader who is striving for the protection of rights of workers, poor and marginalized communities, he said adding that working-class was passing through difficult times due to the current situation of COVID-19 and the PTI government was doing its utmost to provide relief to them. “The whole society especially the affluent ones should take care of workers and low-income groups in their vicinity,” he urged.
For decades, International Labour Day has been observed each year on the first day of May to commemorate the achievements of the working class and the labour movement. On the day seminars and get-togethers are organised by the governments as well as labour federations that highlight the depressed and miserable conditions of our workers.
They also highlight the flagrant violation of labour’ welfare laws regarding medical and old-age pension benefits by employers, facilitated by government functionaries.
