QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Amanullah Khan Yasinzai has decided to leave office and will soon forward his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan, sources said on Friday.
Amanullah Khan cleared that his loyalty will remain with Imran Khan but it was being pushed to the limit. He said that the time had come to unveil the faces that were behind the cracks in his and the PM’s deep companionship. He said will work with PTI in the future and vowed to expose elements behind the cracks.
The development occurred after the premier demanded Yasinzai resign. In a letter addressed to the governor, Imran Khan said that he wants to appoint a new governor. The Prime Minister penned down a letter to Yasinzai, saying that he was unable to see the governor in person due to the prevalent COVID-19 situation in the country.
“Given the current political situation, dexterity and deftness are needed at this Juncture for a delicate balancing act to simultaneously ensure political inclusion and fulfillment of our commitment towards the people of Pakistan,” the letter added.
In view of the above, PM Imran said, “I intend to appoint a new governor in Balochistan and would, therefore, request you to resign. This, of course, does not in any way reflect adversely on your competence or performance.”
Sources prior to the development informed that the premier wants to appoint Zahoor Agha, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf member from Balochistan, the new governor. However, a final decision has yet to be made in this regard.
The development comes two days after Prime Minister Imran paid a day-long visit to Quetta, where he said his government was keen to bring about a revolution in Balochistan through projects of infrastructure and human development.
