A rickshaw driver in Hafizabad set his vehicle ablaze in protest after being issued a traffic challan, claiming that repeated and increasingly heavy fines had left him unable to earn a living.
According to reports, the driver took the extreme step shortly after a traffic warden fined him. Witnesses said the incident drew the attention of passersby and sparked concern over the financial pressures faced by daily-wage workers.
The driver said frequent traffic fines had become unaffordable and were severely affecting his livelihood.
He maintained that the escalating penalties had pushed him to desperation, ultimately leading him to set his rickshaw on fire.
Following the incident, the District Police Officer (DPO) suspended the traffic warden involved and ordered an inquiry into the matter.
Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and assess whether any misconduct occurred.
