The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two additional suspects, including a human smuggler, in connection with the Greece boat tragedy.
According to a report by ARY News on Sunday, an FIA spokesperson identified the suspects as Zain Ali and Asif Shah, apprehended from Hafizabad and Gujrat, respectively.
Officials disclosed that Zain Ali had taken Rs4.5 million from Ahsan, a Jalalpur Jattan resident, with the promise of sending him to Europe. Tragically, Ahsan perished in the Greece boat accident. Meanwhile, Asif Shah allegedly swindled another individual, taking Rs800,000 under the pretense of securing overseas employment.
Previously, an investigation committee probing the Greece boat tragedy implicated 31 FIA officials in the scandal. The committee recommended placing the names of these officers, including inspectors, sub-inspectors, and constables, on the Passport Control List (PCL).
Sources revealed that the implicated officers include 19 from Faisalabad Airport, three from Sialkot Airport, two each from Lahore and Islamabad Airports, and five from Quetta Airport. Their names have been added to the PCL, barring them from international travel.
The ongoing investigation has uncovered the involvement of these 31 officers in facilitating human smuggling operations tied to the shipwreck, which caused significant loss of life off the coast of Greece.
