ISLAMABAD: The PML-N government has decided to stop Imran Khan’s Azadi March in Islamabad which is set to start from May 25.
The decision came during PML-N’s political committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting held consultations over the existing political situation in the country and ways to tackle PTI’s long march.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah gave a briefing on the law and order situation and measures to ensure peace and security. During the meeting, it was agreed that the “public security” must be ensured at all costs. PM Shehbaz Sharif was reported as saying that such tactics are equal to ruining the economy.
Federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Khurram Dastageer and Riaz Tarar attended the meeting.
Earlier on Tuesday, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has said the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) will ensure protection of the residents of Islamabad as per provisions of the law and fascist gangs will not be allowed to invade the federal capital.
Responding to Leader of the Opposition Dr Shahzad Waseem’s objections during Senate session, he said that a mature and democratic leadership is now representing the federal government.
He said these are the pro-democratic people and believe in upholding the law and the constitution. He said law and order will be ensured according to the rules and procedure and the Constitution.
The Law Minister reminded the Opposition Leader in the Upper House of not issuing production orders of parliamentarians like Ali Wazir, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah and others when PTI was in power.
Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said the policies of the previous government have caused severe damage to the economy during the last four years.
Talking to media in Lahore, he said due to PTI government’s policies, the inflation increased and development sectors faced downward trends, which need time to be fixed.
Ahsan Iqbal said the PTI Chairman Imran Khan is trying to create unrest and polarization through hybrid warfare tools, but the government will not allow anyone to destabilize the country.
