The government has disclosed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has held a total of 870 meetings during his time in jail so far.
According to the government spokesperson, claims that Imran Khan has not been allowed to meet his family members, lawyers, or PTI leaders for the past two years, or that he has been kept in solitary confinement, are incorrect.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson, Musarrat Zaidi, rejected allegations by PTI leaders regarding Imran Khan being held in solitary confinement.
Speaking to the British broadcaster Sky News, he stated that Imran Khan has been in jail for approximately 860 days and, under standard rules, is entitled to one meeting per week. However, during 112 weeks, he has held a total of 870 meetings.
He further said that Imran Khan has met his sisters 137 times, including 45 meetings with Aleema Khan, 49 with Uzma Khan, and 43 with Noreen Khan.
Musarrat Zaidi added that nearly 140 meetings with family members cannot be described as solitary confinement.
He also stated that Imran Khan has had 451 meetings with his lawyers and has undergone medical examinations more than 30 times. No military doctors were involved in these check-ups, and his personal physician has also examined him on several occasions.
Referring to jail rules, he said that political discussions are not permitted during meetings. He added that since Imran Khan’s incarceration, 775 messages have been posted from his X (formerly Twitter) account.
