ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has increased the utility allowance for government employees. Chief Justice of Pakistan personally approved the increase and it will kick in from July 1, 2026.
Here’s how the new numbers look:
- Grades 1 to 6 will now get Rs12,000 instead of Rs6,000.
- Grades 7 to 10 jump from Rs8,000 to Rs16,000.
- Grades 11 to 15, it goes up from Rs10,000 to Rs20,000.
- Grade 16 officers will receive Rs24,000 (up from Rs12,000)
- Grade 17 moves from Rs15,000 to Rs30,000.
- Grade 18 will now get Rs36,000 instead of Rs18,000.
- Grade 19 rises from Rs21,000 to Rs42,000.
- Grade 20 doubles from Rs24,000 to Rs48,000.
- Grade 21 and above, the allowance has been boosted from Rs30,000 to a hefty Rs60,000.
This utility allowance is meant to help cover electricity and gas bills, two expenses that have been hitting households hard lately. The good news is that the extra cost will be managed from the already-approved budget for the 2026-27 financial year.
