The government has decided to proceed with the auction of 5G spectrum despite the absence of a fully cleared (clean) spectrum.
According to media reports, 140 MHz out of the total 194 MHz of prime spectrum is currently under litigation.
However, the authorities have decided to move forward by taking advantage of the fact that no stay order has been issued by the court regarding this portion of the spectrum.
Sources stated that the government plans to auction the entire 194 MHz of prime spectrum in the 2600 MHz band. Of this, 140 MHz is not currently subject to any restraining court order, and no operational equipment is presently deployed on this portion of the spectrum.
Following the issuance of the policy directive, the government will be responsible for ensuring the availability of the spectrum.
It is expected that telecom operators will actively participate in the auction of the 2600 MHz band prime spectrum.
