Global coronavirus death toll crosses 1,142,744

WASHINGTON: The coronavirus has infected 41,994,442 people worldwide and killed 1,142,744.

The number of recovered people from coronavirus has risen to 31,187,227 and there are 9,664,463 active cases. The United States is the world’s number one country infected with the coronavirus. The death toll in the United States has risen to 228,381, while the number of people affected has risen to 8,661,651.

India ranks second in the world in terms of coronavirus cases, with more than 117,000 deaths and more than 7,761,000 people diagnosed with the virus.

The total number of deaths from coronavirus in Brazil has risen to more than 155,000, while the number of people affected is more than 53.32 million.

More than 1.46 million people in Russia have been infected with the coronavirus, and the total death toll has exceeded 25,200. In Spain, more than 1,090,000 people have been affected, while 34,521 people have lost their lives. In Argentina, more than 1,053,000 people have been affected and 27,957 deaths have occurred.

Colombia has 29,636 deaths, and more than 990,000 reported cases. In Peru, 879,876 people have been affected and 33,984 have died.  Moreover, a fast and cheap paper-based coronavirus test will soon be available across India, with scientists hope it will help turn the tide on the pandemic in one of the world’s worst-hit nations.

India has recorded more than 7.5 million infections, second only to the United States, and the outbreak has spread from densely packed megacities like Mumbai to rural communities with limited medical services.
