ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party has decided to form a coalition government in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) with other parties to ensure political stability in the region, sources said.
Party sources said PPP leadership has given a green signal for an alliance in GB and negotiations for power-sharing are underway with allied parties. The move comes as PPP aims to build a stable government in Gilgit-Baltistan following the recent elections.
According to sources, PPP has secured 11 general seats in the GB Assembly. The party will also get four seats reserved for women, taking its total strength to 15 members in the assembly.
Sources added that PPP leadership has held meetings with GB leaders and the formula for power-sharing with coalition partners is being finalized. Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party is expected to be part of the GB government.
PPP leadership will take final approval for the coalition from the party chairman before announcing the cabinet lineup. Contacts with independent winning candidates are also ongoing to strengthen the government’s position in the assembly.
The party has ruled out including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen in the GB government.
