ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to launch the Prime Minister’s Special Fuel Relief Scheme across Pakistan, under which subsidised fuel will be provided to motorcycles, rickshaws, three-wheelers and vehicles with engine capacity of up to 800cc. The cost of the subsidy will be fully covered by the federal government.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the National Steering Committee on Fuel Subsidy, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The scheme, which was initially piloted in Islamabad, is now being extended nationwide.
According to officials, fuel relief tokens will start being issued at 11:59pm on September 16. Eligible citizens can register for the scheme by sending an SMS to 9771.
Ishaq Dar directed the authorities to keep the registration process simple and accessible. He also ordered that payments to fuel stations be cleared within 24 hours and that provincial governments launch public awareness campaigns to facilitate eligible beneficiaries.
