LAHORE: The Fifa World Cup trophy has reached Pakistan on its one-day unveiling tour ahead of Football World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
The trophy was received by the country’s women’s football team captain Hajra Khan at the Lahore airport.
The trophy will be unveiled in a hotel in Lahore, while former French footballer Christian Karembeu is accompanying the trophy. Football fans will be able to take pictures with the trophy.
The 2022 Qatar World Cup start on November 21 and will culminate with the final on December 18. The Fifa World Cup Trophy Tour has visited nearly 50 countries till now and will next head to Saudi Arabia after Pakistan.
The trophy tour kicked off in May in Dubai where the Football World Cup winners Iker Casillas and Kaka put the original FIFA trophy tour on display.
This is the second consecutive time when the FIFA World Cup trophy will be touring Pakistan. In 2018, World Cup winner from France Christian Karembeu brought the trophy to Pakistan and put it on display for fans in the country, and will visit the country once again.
It must be mentioned that Pakistan is currently suspended from FIFA’s membership. The FIFA-appointed Normalisation Committee has not been invited to attend the unveiling ceremony.
The FIFA World Cup Trophy is awarded to the winners of the FIFA World Cup while remaining in FIFA’s possession. Made of solid gold and weighing 6.142kg, the trophy depicts two human figures holding the globe aloft.
