KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed to have apprehended a key member of a sleeper cell of Indian prime intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
According to FIA officials, the anti-terrorism wing of the FIA has apprehended Asif Siddiqui, a key member of RAW sleeper cell from Karachi.
The FIA officials further claimed that the arrested suspect was a Grade-17 government employee and was involved in sending information about the Pakistani security agencies to India in emails.
The accused was also sending photographs of sensitive security places and other information to India through emails, the officials added. They said that the accused Asif Siddiqui is affiliated with MQM’s London group.
It is pertinent to mention here that the police had recently claimed to arrest Shahid Ilyas alias ‘Muttahida’ and his two accomplices in Karachi allegedly affiliated with the Indian spy agency.
Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ghulam Nabi Memon in a press conference said that the arrested person identified as Shahid alias Muttahida is the head of RAW’s terror wing.
On April 19, Sindh police had claimed to have apprehended four terrorists allegedly affiliated with the banned outfit Al-Qaeda from the Gulistan-e-Johar area of the metropolis.
Senior superintendent of police for the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) Syed Irfan Ali Bahadur said the four alleged militants were apprehended during a targeted operation carried out by the Sindh Police’s SIU personnel and federal intelligence agencies.
They were identified as Muhammad Bilal alias Fida, Muhammad Umar Muhammad Amir and Muhammad Waseem.
The police official further said weapons and explosive material, including three grenades, 10 detonators and two Kalashnikovs were recovered from the arrested criminals’ possession.
