The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recorded a 16 percent month-on-month growth in tax receipts for August 2025, along with an 11 percent increase compared to the same month last year.
As per official data, tax collections stood at Rs 886 billion in August 2025, up from Rs 765 billion in July 2025.
In comparison, August 2024 brought in Rs 797 billion. Despite the improvement, the collection fell short of the monthly target of Rs 951 billion, missing it by Rs 64 billion.
Cumulatively, for the first two months of the current fiscal year, the FBR managed to collect Rs 1,651 billion against the target of Rs 1,698 billion, reflecting a shortfall of Rs 47 billion.
In contrast, July’s performance was stronger, as the FBR surpassed its monthly target. Collections reached Rs 755 billion against the assigned goal of Rs 748 billion. Income tax contributed Rs 324 billion, while sales tax generated Rs 353 billion.
Additionally, federal excise duty brought in Rs 46 billion, and customs duty added Rs 113 billion.
For FY2025-26, the FBR has been tasked with achieving an ambitious annual revenue target of Rs 14,131 billion.
Meeting these targets is essential to fulfilling commitments under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, which emphasizes consistent monthly collection.
