Electricity crisis continues in Karachi as KE shuts down 3 power plants

KARACHI: The power crisis in Karachi continues for the third week and K-Electric has shut down three power plants due to a shortage of gas.

There is a gap of 500 MW between the demand and supply of electricity in Karachi. A spokesman for K-Electric said that the power generation is still affected by the drop in gas pressure.

A spokesman for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSG) said that the required amount of 190 million cubic feet of gas was being supplied to K-Electric at full pressure. It is to be noted that the duration of announced and unannounced load shedding in Karachi is 6 to 10 hours.

The areas of New Karachi, North Karachi, Scheme 33, FB Area, Gulistan-e-Johar Malir, Landhi, and Lyari have been affected by the load shedding.

The spokesman for K-Electric said that the demand for electricity in Karachi is 3200 MW and the reduction in gas pressure is causing difficulties in power generation.

At least three hours load shedding started in industrial areas. New Karachi and North Karachi are experiencing 4 to 6 hours of load shedding last night. Power outages continued in Malir, Baldia, Orangi Town, and Lyari.
