Lahore has entered a new era of eco-friendly public transport with the launch of its first electric vehicle (EV) bus service. Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, inaugurated the province’s first fully electric bus service in the provincial capital.
The electric buses, imported from China, have a capacity of 80 passengers, including 30 seats, and are equipped with ramps and designated seating for individuals with special needs.
In the first phase, 27 electric buses will operate along a 21-kilometer route from the Railway Station to Green Town, covering key areas such as Queens Road, Mazang, Ferozepur Road, Campus Bridge, Ichhra, and Canal Road. The route is expected to be fully operational by mid-February, benefiting approximately 17,000 passengers daily.

Each electric bus is equipped with advanced features, including a GPS tracker, Wi-Fi, USB ports, and an anti-slip floor. Separate sections for male and female passengers, along with onboard cameras, have been installed to enhance safety and prevent harassment.
To support the new fleet, the government has established nine charging stations. The buses can travel up to 250 kilometers on a single charge, ensuring efficient and sustainable urban mobility.
