On February 8, the country voted in the 12th General Elections under a bar on communication with mobile internet services disrupted and delays in the start of polling reported in several areas.
Nearly 129 million Pakistanis voted across 90,000 polling stations across the country, helping elect the 266 candidates that would steer the country out of its current economic crisis.
For this, the government deployed over 648,000 security personnel nationwide to ensure safety, but a drastically different political landscape played on the minds of voters.
According to the unofficial count, Murad Ali Shah of the PPP clinched victory with 66,100 votes, while Roshan Ali Barro of the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) secured second place with 6,150 votes. Shah’s win underscores the political dynamics in Sindh, as parties vie for representation in the provincial assembly.
