KARACHI: A fire erupted at the Fisheries KPT Boat Building Yard on Monday night and rapidly engulfed eight newly-built boats docked at the yard.
At least six fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and started an operation to bring the fire under control but their efforts were hampered due to a shortage of water.
Fire brigade officials expressed concerns that the fire would spread further. Fire tenders from the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) were called in to contain the blaze which was put out after over seven hours.
Eight boats were completely gutted in the incident as boat owners complained over the slow fire fighting efforts. They said the rescue operation was suspended for over an hour due to a shortage of water.
In another incident, a fire erupted at an oil godown located near the Razzaqabad Police Training Center in Karachi on late Monday night.
Three fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and brought the fire under control. No loss of life was reported in the incident. Fire brigade officials said that oil was stored illegally in the warehouse while the cause of the fire is still not known.
