ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb approved a wide-ranging relief package for electricity consumers connected to the national grid.

Under the decision, Rs50 billion collected through levies on captive power plants will be transferred back to the public as part of the relief initiative.

The ECC also cleared the release of Rs3 billion for flood relief efforts in Gilgit-Baltistan, following directives from the Prime Minister. The funds will be used to provide tents, food, medicines, and essential supplies to families affected by recent floods, as well as for repairing damaged infrastructure and supporting early recovery in the region.

On another agenda item, the committee approved a Technical Supplementary Grant of Rs11 billion for Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) to manage tariff adjustment and net metering costs. An immediate release of Rs3.813 billion was authorised, while the remaining amount will be disbursed quarterly to cover salaries, pensions, and operational needs. However, the ECC urged PTV to reduce reliance on government funding and work towards financial self-sufficiency.

The committee deferred a decision on the Voluntary Separation Scheme (VSS) for Utility Stores Corporation (USC) employees, directing that the proposal first be reviewed by a committee formed under the Prime Minister before final consideration.

In addition, the ECC approved a settlement plan for recovering long-pending petroleum levy dues from M/s Cnergyico PK Limited (CPL), dating back to 2019. The Petroleum Division has been authorised to sign a deed of settlement with CPL to ensure recovery of the full outstanding amount in line with SIFC Apex/EC/IC decisions.
