KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued a show-cause notice to Inspector General Police (IG) Sindh over the police’s failure to recover Dua Zehra, a young girl who got married to a youngster in Lahore.
The court had ordered the authorities to present the teenager at the hearing. The court expressed immense displeasure over the inability to recover the girl.
Advocate General Sindh informed the court of the efforts made to recover the girl, saying that she has been traced to Mansehra. “It appears that some cops are helping her after information of police raid was leaked to them, resulting in their escape from the location,” he said
He asked the court to summon DIG Hazara and issue directives for her recovery. He said that some lawyers and policemen are also supporting the girl. He added that IG Sindh is in contact with officials in Hazara, who have assured to recover the girl in a couple of days.
Justice Iqbal Kalhoro responded to the remarks and said that it is the responsibility of the Sindh police to recover the girl.
“Next time you could say that the girl’s location has been traced from Afghanistan. What will we do then?” he said, admonishing the police for their lack of implementation of court orders.
Justice Agha Faisal said that the court is issuing a show-cause notice to IG Sindh. He said the notice will withdraw by Friday if the girl is recovered.
Significant progress has been made in the case of Dua Zehra, who went missing on April 16 last month from the Golden Town area of Karachi. She later surfaced in Lahore and claimed to have married a youngster Zaheer on her own freewill.
The marriage certificate presented by Zehra’s alleged husband Zaheer and his family in the Lahore court turned out to be fake. The investigation officer of the case has arrested the marriage witness and the cleric who solemnized the marriage.
