Dr Faisal says govt can’t lift Covid restrictions until all citizens get vaccinated

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan has that COVID-19 restrictions will not be eased till all citizens have been vaccinated against the virus.

Dr Faisal in a video message said that covid-19 restrictions will be eased once citizens start getting themselves inoculated. “The country is reporting a decline in Covid-19 cases and the coronavirus positivity ratio has dropped to the lowest at 4 per cent,” he added.

“The coronavirus positivity rate has dropped considerably because of the effective government measures in tackling the deadly third wave of coronavirus,” he informed.

Faisal Sultan further said that the Covid-19 situation in Sindh is still critical as the positivity ratio stands at 7 per cent in the province. The SAPM also urged people not to pay heed to rumours about the efficacy and side effects of the Covid-19 vaccine being administered in the country.

Pakistan reported a coronavirus positivity rate under 4% for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday. According to the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the country reported a positivity rate of 3.81% as of today.

The latest surge of 1,923 cases has taken the nationwide tally of reported cases to 930,511. According to statistics provided by the NCOC, Pakistan reported 83 fatalities after which the death toll reached 21,189.

In addition to this, 860,385 people have recovered from the virus in the country so far with active cases recorded at 48,937. Currently, Pakistan is facing a third wave of COVID-19 pandemic while the relevant authorities continue to tightening the anti-pandemic measures and facilitating the vaccination drive.

According to NCOC, more than 6.130 million doses have been administered so far. More than 1.513 million have been full vaccinated, while 3.180 have received partial doses

The increase in the number of people getting vaccinated has been witnessed after the NCOC allowed walk-in vaccination for citizens above 30 years of age.

“In the NCOC meeting today it was decided to open up walk-in vaccination for 30 plus from tomorrow,” Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar had said. He urged citizens aged above thirty to visit a vaccination centre and get themselves vaccinated.

The government has also started registering citizens aged 19 and above for vaccination against COVID-19. People aged between 19 to 30 years can register themselves by sending their CNIC number to 1166.

The government decided to open vaccine registration for all people having Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) which is approved by health experts for COVID-19 vaccination.
