The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced the winners of its competition for the designs of the new banknote series on Thursday. Meanwhile, some social media users have launched a propaganda campaign targeting the newly designed Rs1000 banknote on religious grounds.
False and misleading information about the 1,000 Pakistani Rupee note has been spread through a social media post by the account “Dawat O Tabligh,” which has 7,000 followers.
The post features a doctored image of the banknote, falsely claiming that it displays a cross symbol and another symbol associated with the Dajjal (Antichrist). It also alleges that Muslims should reject the note because the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is controlled by Jews.
These claims are entirely false. The cross symbol is not present on the 1,000 Pakistani Rupee note. The design incorporates several national symbols and security features, but none resemble a cross.
This misleading post is intended to incite fear and create distrust among the public. By exploiting religious sentiments and fabricating allegations, it seeks to erode confidence in the national currency and financial institutions.
