Sindh govt sets tough building rules for private school in Karachi  

KARACHI: Several students enrolled in the Karachi Development Authority’s (KDA) schools risk their lives as they have to either sit under the scorching sun or inside a damaged building to attend classes.

As per details, students revealed their ordeal while studying in a building that is posing a constant danger to their lives.

“We do not have a proper building, no furniture, no electricity, no bathrooms and no water in our school, where they are always at the mercy of weather conditions,” a student told this scribe.

“Our children are studying under the shadow of death. The building can collapse anytime and result in fatalities,” the locals said.

They also accused the Education department of being in “deep slumber”. The locals claimed to have approached the concerned authorities several times, but “nothing has been done yet”.

The locals and students appealed to AKDA Employees Union Director-General Nasir Abbas Soomro, Member Administration Abdul Qadeer Mangi, and Secretary KDA Fazal Bukhari to visit the school and personally inspect the condition of the damaged building which was a constant threat to their lives.

Sources said also confirmed, “There are fears of short circuits and electric shocks due to faulty electric wiring, there is no water system in the school and the washrooms are also a pile of dirt due to the absence of a sweeper” sources added.

In this regard, an emergency meeting of the KDA Employees Union was held under the chairmanship of President Nadeem Khokhar. Chairman Union Muhammad Abdul Maroof, General Secretary Dilawar Khan, Deputy General Secretary Qamar Abbas Bhai and other officials were present in the meeting.

Concerns were expressed over the condition of KDA schools in the meeting. Chairman Muhammad Abdul Maroof said, “The condition of schools is very deplorable and there is no watchman or sweeper in the schools”.
